i was looking through the photos posted on NJC and SCGS groups. i felt a sense of nostalgia running through my mind. i really miss those gray uniform days. somewhat the 2yrs there is comparable to my 10yrs in scgs. e environment in scgs is just so different from nj. perhaps its cuz i was nv too much of an angmoh-speaking girl and hence the 10yrs in scgs was a teeny weeny bit tiresome for me to be more angmoh than usual. of cuz scgs 10yrs worth of memories are definitely sweet and lovely! its just different from nj. scgs was a sheltered environment. everyone comes from relatively good family background. students who weren't, belong to the minority group but yet that was never a gap between the others. we do not discriminate people by family background. we are all kimgeks in one family (:
who can forget...the forever-nice-tasting uncle's meepok which you can only afford to queue if your teacher lets you off for early recess.
the day when smses were flooding your handphone only to know that uncle has passed away. the day when you heard of aunty nancy's passing.
how we always find it a chore to make new uniform when we grow out of it because its tailor-made.
how people laugh and tease us of our uniform (HEY i'm way proud of it alright!)
how we always had to greet teachers along the way
how we will all spend alot of time discussing what class tee colour to choose and which design/slogan to use
how we wreck havoc in class with all our stupid but insanely funny ideas
how we laughed at our teachers
how we love our teachers
how miss heng will always be the one and only principal in e hearts of many
how constant late-comers have the honour to stand on the podium every assembly
how the prefects constantly nag at us for almost nothing to everything (haha. sorry yy =p)
how we slog through each exam be it midyr or finals
how we sit in the audi waiting to get each exam paper results be it in joy or sorrow
how the khoo audi smells and look like both offstage and at the audience seats
how funny mr muhliani and mr lim are!
how the spice garden never smelt like one
how fun it is to weed at malcolm park
how pe was always so fun with games!
how to have etiquette and personal grooming through the many activities we have to join (compulsory) after exams
how sports day, national day etc were shiok days cuz they were always half day school
how long band practises and sectionals were.
how shiok foot drills were when you were in sec4 and how shitty when you were in sec1-3

how scary the toilet is back in emerald hill...
how you always heard of ghost stories of the different parts in school
the SONG ONG SIANG building that's a out of bounds place for pri sch little girls like us
the staircase up to the hall which was so old and shaky
the musty smell of the old hall
how we primary 1 kids were made to sit in the hall learning how to sing "Majulah Singapura" and "Glad that I live am I"
how we sang both songs every day and reciting pledge in chinese/eng on alt days
how we always go to toilet in pairs or more than 2
how we can stay forever or even eat inside our toilets
how clean scgs toilets are (the girls in there shld learn to appreciate them)
how kimgek we are supposed to be
how a sincere and courageous girl should be both generous and also a service to the society
how we should grow up as a lady of character and relevance to be an asset to the society
how we are just simply SCGS girls.
to all scgs girls, i'm sure we're all proud of our alma mater and definitely proud to be part of the scgs history. i'm lookg fwd to the day the time capsule will be reopened in 2049. by then scgs will be a 150yrs old darlingggg and i'm sure i'll still remember all these sweet memories (:
GLAD THAT I LIVE AM I
Glad that I live am I,
That the sky is blue;
Glad for the country lanes
And the fall of dew,
After the sun the rain,
After the rain the sun
This is the way of life
Till the work be done.
All that we need to do,
Be we low or high is to
see that we grow nearer the sky.
once a scgs girl, always a scgs girl =)
